Located in the heart of Arkansas State’s campus, the Memorial Arch at Arkansas State University was built in 1927 and is the oldest remaining structure on campus. It was donated by the class of 1927, serving as the entrance to the First District Agricultural & Mechanical (A&M) College. A&M was founded as the First District Agricultural School in Jonesboro in 1909, renamed the First District Agricultural & Mechanical (A&M) College in 1925 representing the school’s transitioned from its agricultural roots to a more modern institution.
