Partenope - "par ten OH pay”, an alternative Italian spelling for one of the Greek Sirens. According to legend, Naples, Italy traces its origins back to the siren Partenope who lived on an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea with her sisters Ligeia and Leucosia. The Sirens were beautiful but dangerous creatures who used their haunting music to lure unsuspecting sailors to their rocky shores and ultimate death.
